Morph Mastery Adventures: Transforming approaches to words
Louise Selby, creator of Morph Mastery, shows us how morphology is used to transform spelling and vocabulary.
- Find out about morphology - literally making sense of words
- Hear how a morphological approach has transformed learning
- Find out about how to use Morph Mastery in your setting
- Get your hands on with the Morph Mastery materials
- Leave with practical ideas to implement straight away
Morphology (prefixes, suffixes and roots) is integral to understanding words - it literally makes sense of them. This approach can be transformative for all learners, but especially for dyslexics, whose phonological difficulties mean they have struggled with a purely phonics based approach. Many, however, still need a highly structured and multi-sensory approach to intervention.
Having repeatedly observed learners with dyslexia struggle to acquire fluent reading and spelling skills using traditional phonic approaches, Louise created Morph Mastery, which was published by Routledge in 2021. Designed as a compendium of resources, Morph Mastery offers intervention strategies that learners and educators enjoy, and that work.
In this workshop you'll gain an overview of how and why morphology works and how it's applied in intervention. You'll find out how it's used and adapted in different ways, and you'll get a chance to view and play with the materials yourself.

School of Solutions (early intervention AP for attendance)
Early intervention alternative provisionand how it can support getting students back into school.
- Attendance Improvemnet
- Short Term Alternative Provision
- Outreach in Schools
- Students feel they belong
We set up straight after the pandemic and were pleased that the SEND AP action plans mirrored what we were running (outreach support in schools, early intervention / short term part time placements and longer-term placements, SoS has worked with over 400 pupils since 2021 2022). There have been a number of articles written about the work but the most descriptive is Behavior in schools: How to reduce exclusions | Tes. In 2023 we won wellbeing Trust of the year for the therapeutic way that children are reintegrated into their mainstream schools in our Trust, off the back of this we were contacted by an international publishing house, and we are just coming to the end of writing a manual / guide for school and education leaders who are looking to set up an early intervention attendance Alternative Provision.
